Assumption Scores Late to Trip Up Bentley 2-1

Worcester, Mass. – Midfielder Ruben Faria scored with just 19 seconds remaining to give the hosts Assumption a late 2-1 win over the Bentley men's soccer team in the NE10 opener for both teams on Tuesday night.

Faria scored from 10 yards out with a shot from the center of the 18 yard box to give the Greyhounds the win.

Bentley had fallen behind 1-0, but junior Nick Halliday (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton High) scored the equalizer in the 64th minute. The goal came off a cross that came in from the right wing and Halliday chipped it into the top right corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

Assumption had gone ahead in the first half off a goal from forward Chase Gurcan in the 36th minute with a finish from five yards out.

Senior forward Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) led Bentley with three shots on goal, while goalkeeper David Price (Needham, Mass./Beaver Country) made six saves on the night.

Assumption improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 NE10, while the Falcons dropped to 2-1-1 and 0-1 NE10. Their next match is Saturday at Southern Connecticut.
