Stewart Claims NE10 Player of the Week Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – Two big performances on the Bentley men's soccer team's road to the postseason have seen junior forward Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) claim the NE10 Player of the Week award, the conference announced Monday.

Stewart had a hand in three of the four goals the Falcons scored last week in a pair of 2-1 victories that clinched Bentley a spot in this week's NE10 playoffs.

In last Tuesday's 2-1 home win over Saint Anselm, he scored the tying goal in the 80th minute, after the Hawks had taken a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute. In overtime, he helped setup senior Sean Sullivan for the winning goal in the 96th minute with a centering pass sent in from the right wing.

Bentley still had work to do following that game, and likely needed to beat Le Moyne on the final day of the regular season to advance. The Falcons seized an early lead in the 10th minute, as Stewart scored from close range off a corner kick from freshman Connor Mote, and a header from center back Adam Watkins.

Le Moyne scored the tying goal just five minutes later, but sophomore Alec Foster netted the go-ahead goal just 1:42 after halftime, and Bentley held on for a 2-1 win.

Stewart is the 2nd Bentley player this season to earn an NE10 weekly award. Junior Harrison Rapant was chosen as Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 16.

The Falcons will face the top seed Adelphi in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night on Long Island.
