Three Different Goal Scorers Help Bentley Top New Haven 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Three different players scored as the Bentley men's soccer team saw off New Haven 3-0 on Friday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match for the Falcons' second straight win.

The victory also extended Bentley's unbeaten streak to a season long three matches at 2-0-1.

Sophomore Colby Gould (Exeter, N.H./Exeter), senior Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and junior  Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) were the goal scorers. Gould was on target in the 7th minute to give the Falcons an early 1-0 lead. Sullivan and Stewart scored less than a minute apart late in the 2nd half to put the game away, which started with Sullivan's goal in the 86th minute.

Stewart had the assist on Gould's goal to give him three points on the day. The goal was set up after Bentley blocked a New Haven clearing attempt out of the offensive zone and Stewart gained possession. He then fed a short pass to Gould in the penalty area, and Gould's low shot got past the Chargers' keeper to put the Falcons in front.

Gould almost helped create a second goal late in the first half. He played a cross in from the right wing for Sullivan in the penalty area. Sullivan got off a slight unbalanced but still strong shot to the near post, but was denied by New Haven keeper.

Bentley hung on to that 1-0 lead for almost all of the 2nd half, until goals by Sullivan and Stewart put the match away. Sullivan scored off a feed from senior Matt Jones (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens), and just 50 seconds later, Stewart netted his fourth goal of the season after he created space for himself with a juke around his defender.

Bentley goalkeeper Harrison Rapant (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) made four saves to pick up the win.

The Falcons will go for three wins in a row next Wednesday night when they visit Southern New Hampshire in a match that will be broadcast on Fox College Sports.
