WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley created a number of excellent scoring chances late, but had to settle for a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match.
Despite falling behind 1-0 early on a 9th minute goal by Franklin Pierce's Yannik Felber, Bentley wasn't deterred and had the better of play throughout the afternoon. They had an 18-10 advantage in total shots, and four to three in shots on goal.
Junior Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) scored in the tying goal in the 63rd minute. After he took a pass from Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) just outside the penalty area, he dribbled past his marker to create space, and got off a shot through traffic that beat Ravens keeper Jaden Poon-Lewis to the near post for the goal.
After that, Bentley really ramped up the pressure. Sullivan had a shot in the 86th minute that produced a good save by Lewis, and one minute later, senior Matt Jones (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens) whistled a long-distance shot just over the crossbar.
Bentley then had by far the best chances in overtime. Midfielder Charlie Lopez (Madrid, Spain) had a shot in the 94th minute denied by a diving save by Lewis. In the 104th minute, freshman Kyle Archambault (Uxbridge, Mass./St. John's), who gave the Ravens fits all day, had a shot go just wide.
It's the second tie of the year for the Falcons, after a tie with Southern Connecticut on Sept, 16. They're back in action on Tuesday at home to Stonehill.
