Bentley Outshoots Assumption, but Greyhounds Slip By 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley outshot Assumption 13-7 on the day, but a 20th minute goal by the Greyhounds' Simon Trcka was the difference as the visitors emerged with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Bentley had a great scoring chance in the 9th after a fantastic ball was played in from the deep left wing that freshman Adam Watkins (McConnells, S.C./Clover) headed off the crossbar.

But it was Assumption that got the game's first goal in the 20th minute from sophomore Simon Trcka. Sophomore Jason Lages came up with a steal in midfield and threaded a through ball to Trcka, which allowed him to break on goal and get off a shot from 15 yards to give the Greyhounds the lead.

Bentley built up some pressure late in the half, and had a good scoring chance from senior Tommy Nickerson (Colchester, Conn./Baron Academy) blocked inside the penalty box in the 40th minute.

Bentley threatened several times in the 2nd half, but could not find the tying goal despite outshooting the Greyhounds 8-2 and largely controlling possession.

Midfielder Chris Caso (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) hit the post with a thunderous shot from the right in the 85th minute. In the final minute, senior Chuck Leone (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) put a dangerous throw-in into the box that created a scramble in front of the goal, but a Bentley player could not get to it before Assumption goalie Brian Murray smothered it.

Falcons goalie David Price (Needham, Mass./Beaver Country) played a strong game, including two saves late that kept Bentley in it.

The Falcons are back at home on Saturday when they take on Southern Connecticut at 3:00 pm.
