WORCESTER, Mass. – Home standing Assumption broke a scoreless tie with goals in the 78th and 82nd minute to edge past the Bentley University men's soccer team 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match.
The match was deadlocked 0-0 deep into the 2nd half, until the Greyhounds scored the decisive goals four minutes apart to claim a hard-fought victory.
Assumption got the breakthrough goal in the 78th minute on a shot by freshman forward Simon Trcka and assisted by midfielder Matt Gilson. Trcka took one touch off a through-ball from Gilson and knocked his shot in off the crossbar to give his team the lead.
Just four minutes later, Gilson was involved again to make it 2-0 as he scored off a free kick to double Assumption's advantage.
The Falcons fell to 0-4 with the defeat, while the Greyhounds are now 2-0 in NE-10 matches. Bentley's next match is Wednesday at home against Merrimack, with a 3:30 kickoff.
