So. New Hampshire Halts Bentley 2-0 in NE-10 Semis

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Top seed Southern New Hampshire defeated fourth seed Bentley 2-0 Friday night to advance to the Northeast-10 Championship finals on Sunday.

The Falcons fall to 10-7-1 on the season, while the Penmen improve to 17-1. They came into the match ranked No. 3 in Division II and will play Adelphi in Sunday's final.

Bentley was dealt a major blow early on when a red card was given in the 16th minute, making them play with 10 men the rest of the way.

Southern took advantage less than three minutes later when forward Orri Gustafsson redirected a cross from the left wing by left back Gilbert Manier, which gave the Penmen a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.

Manier was involved in the 2nd goal to give Southern a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute. Running on to a pass from the right, Manier had space to tee up a shot that rolled into the far post from 20 yards out.

Bentley's best scoring chance of the night came in the 69th minute off a corner kick by freshman Evan Ryan (Cornwall, Vt./Middlebury Union). Senior Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin) got a good header off from 12 yards, only to be denied by Southern keeper Nick Zucco's diving save.
