Hoffman Leads Bentley to 3-2 Victory Southern Conn in Northeast-10 Quarterfinals

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin) scored the tying and go-ahead goals two minutes apart in the 2nd half, and assisted on Bentley's third goal, as the Falcons downed Southern Connecticut 3-2 Tuesday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinals.

The Falcon advance to Friday's semifinals where they will meet either top-seed Southern New Hampshire or No. 8 seed Saint Michael's

Bentley fell behind 1-0 in the 53rd minute as Southern's Chae Brangman got on the end of a long ball to put the Owls in front.

14 minutes elapsed before the Falcons equalized. Right back Chuck Leone (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) set the goal up with an overlapping run down the right wing and a cross into the penalty box, that Hoffman finished off with a low shot from 12 yards out.

With the score tied 1-1, it took Bentley less than two minutes to jump in front. Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) got it started with a cross in from the right wing to forward Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) in the box. Sullivan won the ball and played a pass off to Hoffman, who blasted a shot up top from 20 yards away to give Bentley a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute.

Left back Brett Ripperger (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) then got the third goal started with run down the left wing and pass in to Hoffman. Hoffman then played a short pass to Levy, who volleyed his shot to the far post to give Bentley a 3-1 lead in the 76th minute, and three goals for Bentley in less than 10 minutes.

Southern wouldn't go away quietly though as midfielder Josh Abromaitis scored in the 79th minute to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Falcons though were able to see off the rest of the game to advance to Friday's semifinal, where they will meet the winner of tonight's SNHU vs. Saint Michael's game.
