Tirado Helps Bentley Top AIC 3-1 on Senior Day

WALTHAM, Mass. – Midfielder Jose Tirado (Lima, Peru) had a hand in two of three goals off free kicks to help the Bentley men's soccer team defeat AIC 3-1 in the regular season finale on Friday afternoon. The Falcons will open the Northeast-10 Playoffs on Tuesday with the opponent and venue to be determined.

Bentley's opponent, and where the match will be played, will be determined by Southern Connecticut's result at Southern New Hampshire tonight.

Bentley got the game's first goal from left back Brett Ripperger (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) in the 15th minute, his first of the season. Tirado set the goal up with a free kick from 30 yards, and Ripperger hammered home a header inside the six yard box.

The Yellow Jackets fought back with a goal in the 36th minute to level the score, but just three minutes later Bentley was back on top thanks to red hot Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), who netted his fourth goal in three matches and sixth in the last five.

The goal was started with another free kick, that Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) got on the end of and sent a cross into the six yard box. Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) got a touch on it on the far post over to Sullivan, who smashed his shot home to give Bentley a 2-1 lead.

Bentley took that lead into halftime, and extended it 3-1 in the 70th minute, this time with Tirado scoring. Bentley was given a free kick off an AIC foul in the left corner, just outside the penalty area 25 yards from goal, and Tirado curled it perfectly into the top corner of the far post.

The Falcons close out the regular season with a record of 9-6-1 overall and 8-4-1 in the Northeast-10.
