COLCHESTER, Vt. – Despite a late rally from 2-0 down for the second straight match, Bentley fell at Saint Michael's in overtime 3-2 for its first defeat in six matches. Sophomore Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) had both goals for Bentley.
The Falcons fell behind 1-0 in the 18th minute on a goal by forward Adrian Diaz, then dropped into a 2-0 deficit in the 65th minute on a goal by midfielder Thomas Antensaye.
But as they did on Wednesday vs. Franklin Pierce, rallying from 2-0 down with goals in the final 10-plus minutes of regulation, Bentley again struck for two late goals to force overtime.
Sullivan made it 2-1 in the 78th minute, poaching in a loose ball in front of the net for an unassisted goal. He then equalized it at 2-2 in the 89th minute, with his 5th goal of the season, after finishing off a long ball over the top of the Saint Michael's defense from center back Matt Jones (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephen's).
The first 10 minutes of overtime failed to yield a winner from either side, but five minutes into the second overtime the Purple Knights sealed it when senior O.J. Rivas tipped in a corner kick.
The defeat sends Bentley's record to 6-4-1 in the Northeast-10 and 7-6-1 overall. They'll play their second to last match of the regular season on Tuesday at 3:00 pm at New Haven.
