Bentley Battles Back to Tie Franklin Pierce 2-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin) scored twice in the final 10-plus minutes of regulation to lead Bentley back to a 2-2 tie with Franklin Pierce on Wednesday afternoon. The tie gives Bentley a five match unbeaten streak at 4-0-1.

With Bentley trailing 2-0 deep into the 2nd half, Hoffman scored goals in the 80th and 84th minutes to lead Bentley into overtime, where the match ended 2-2.

The Falcons had the best scoring chance early on to break the scoreless tie, in the 16th when a header by Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) was cleared off the line by a Franklin Pierce defender and Scott Levy's (Canton, Mass./Canton) attempt at the rebound went just over the bar.

Franklin Pierce though took advantage of its first good chance with a goal in the 22nd minute by forward Marius Preber. Midfielder Lloyd Ross chipped a ball over the defense that Preber ran on to and got his foot on, just nudging the ball over the line before it could be cleared off to take a 1-0 advantage.

Bentley nearly equalized in the 34th minute when Jose Tirado (Lima, Peru) ripped a 35 yard free kick on goal, only to be denied by a diving save by keeper Jordan LeGuyader.

The Ravens then seized upon the first good chance of the 2nd half with a goal in the 67th minute from freshman Victor DaCosta. Forward Quincy Appah set the goal up with a ball in from the right flank to DaCosta, who finished from 10 yards out to the far post to make it 2-0.

Bentley though got back in it with Hoffman's first of the day in the 80th minute. Levy chased down a loose ball before it went out, and played a cross into the box that took a deflection to Hoffman, who slotted it in to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Tirado then setup the equalizer in the 84th minute with a free kick sent in from 25 yards that Hoffman headed past LeGuyader.

With the draw, Bentley's records go to 7-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the Northeast-10. They head to the road for their next match, which is Saturday at Saint Michael's at 11:00 am.
