Tirado Keys Bentley’s Comeback in 3-2 Win over Stonehill

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior midfielder Jose Tirado (Lima, Peru) set up the tying goal, and scored the go-ahead go, as Bentley rallied past Stonehill in the second half for a 3-2 victory over the Skyhawks on Saturday afternoon.

Bentley led 1-0 at halftime on a Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin) goal in just the 5th minute. But Stonehill went ahead with goals in the 58th and 63rd minutes.

The Falcons however, fought back, with Tirado the key man. A Stonehill foul resulted in a Bentley free kick, 25 yards from goal in the left corner. Tirado delivered a perfect ball into the box that captain Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) ran on to and headed past the Stonehill keeper to level the score at two in the 67th minute.

In the 81st minute, senior Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) was brought down in the box and Bentley was awarded a penalty kick. Tirado took it, and calmly slotted his shot just under the keeper's out stretched arms to put Bentley in front 3-2.

Bentley was then able to run out the clock the rest of the way for its second win in three matches. They improve to 2-2 in Northeast-10 play and 3-4 overall.

Hoffman got Bentley on the board early on, with Levy on the assist. Levy fed Hoffman at the top of the penalty area, and Hoffman let rip a shot that took a deflection off a Stonehill defender and in.

The Skyhawks equalized in the 58th minute after forward Drew Montano headed in a long throw in from sophomore forward Adam Branco. Branco then scored himself just under five minutes later after volleying in a cross sent in from the right wing.

Bentley goalkeeper Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) made five saves to earn the win.

The Falcons are back on the pitch on Tuesday when they host Adelphi.
