Scaringe’s Goal Sends Bentley Past Assumption 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Forrest Scaringe's (Cohoes, N.Y./CBA) powered home a header off a corner kick in the 62nd minute, and it was enough to give the Bentley men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Assumption on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons even their Northeast-10 record to 1-1 on the season and improve to 2-3 overall with the victory.

Bentley controlled possession throughout the first half and put three shots on goal while holding the Greyhounds to zero. They produced the only clear scoring chance of the half in the 38th minute when sophomore Silmar Bueno (Framingham, Mass./Beaver Country) sent a cross into the box from the right wing that forward Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) rose up for and headed just wide of the far post.

Bentley got the breakthrough in the 62nd minute for the 1-0 lead on the goal by Scaringe. They were awarded a corner kick, which midfielder Jose Tirado (Lima, Peru) swung in from the left. Scaringe fought through a crowd in the middle of the box to power home the header into the back of the net to give the Falcons the advantage.

Just off the restart, Bentley nearly scored again when senior Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) fired a shot off the post. Two minutes later, they nearly added to the lead again when Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) played a ball into the box for freshman Luc Batawi (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe), only for his shot to roll just wide of the far post.

Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), Eric Spangler (Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) and Chris Harkins (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) each had shots on goal in the match's later stages that would have added to Bentley's lead, only for them to go nearly wide.

Bentley is back in action Wednesday night when they visit Merrimack for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
