Saint Anselm Edges Bentley 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm defender Chad Dakin scored the deciding goal in the 86th minute to give the Hawks a 2-1 Northeast-10 victory over the Bentley men's soccer team on Tuesday, who played the majority of the match with 10-men after a first half red card.

The defeat dents Bentley's Northeast-10 playoff hopes, but they will still have a chance on the final day of the regular season. They'll need to defeat New Haven at home on Friday and have AIC, who leads by two points, lose or tie at Saint Anselm. Bentley owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Yellow Jackets by virtue of its 3-2 overtime win on Oct. 11.

Saint Anselm grabbed a 1-0 lead just less than two minutes into this match on a goal by midfielder Zachary Heckt on a shot from 12 yards out.

The Falcons were dealt another blow after a red card was given out in the 29th minute, meaning they had to play the rest of the match a man-down.

But Bentley fought back and drew level when junior Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute.

Despite the disadvantage Bentley battled the Hawks even for the rest of the match, until Dakin scored the winner from midfielder Jack Lynch with a little over four minutes left in regulation.

The Falcons drop to 4-7-1 in Northeast-10 play with the defeat, while Saint Anselm improves to 4-8.
