Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener to Dominican (N.Y.) 1-0 on Late Goal

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Dominican (N.Y.) senior midfielder Mark Grant scored in the 87th minute to break a scoreless deadlock, as the Chargers slipped past the Bentley men's soccer team 1-0 Thursday afternoon at the season-opening Marriott Kickoff Classic.

Grant scored off an eight-yard strike into the bottom right corner of the net for the match's only goal, which was setup by midfielder Christopher Walsh.

Prior to Grant's goal scoring chances were at a premium for both sides, as Bentley produced just two shots on goal to Dominican's four. The Chargers held the same advantage in corner kicks. Bentley's shots on target came from freshmen Matthew Jones (Brandenton, Fla./Saint Stephen's Episcopal) and Eric Spangler (Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus).

Junior goalie Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) made the start for Bentley and came up with three saves.

The Falcons will play match two of the Kickoff Classic on Saturday at 1:00 pm against Caldwell.
