Bentley Suffers Last Second Defeat at New Haven, 2-1

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven junior Eric Robertson scored with just 6.6 seconds left to play to give the host Chargers a dramatic 2-1 win over the Bentley men's soccer team in a Northeast-10 match Friday afternoon. The Falcons still qualify for the NE-10 Playoffs and will play a first round match on the road Tuesday.

With the match tied 1-1, Bentley missed a golden opportunity to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 83rd minute after sophomore Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) was hauled down in the penalty box.

Senior Justin Cirasola (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) took the kick and placed it to the left, but was denied by Chargers goalkeeper James Pyatsky's diving save. The rebound bounced loose to junior Gio LoMonaco (Saint James, N.Y./Chaminade), who had time to tee-up a shot, but Pyatsky made another save and the ball bounced out for a corner kick.

New Haven then took advantage of that missed opportunity by Bentley and Robertson scored the dramatic late winner just before time expired.

The Falcons grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute on sophomore Nico Ucros' (Guatemala City, Guatemala / Jules Verne French) third goal of the season. Junior Michael Kahn (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) had the assist.

The Chargers though equalized just before halftime in the 44th minute on a free kick goal by sophomore Oskar Sewerin.

Bentley finishes the regular season at 7-6 in the Northeast-10 for 21 points. They will be the sixth seed with a Le Moyne loss to Stonehill on Saturday, or the seventh seed with a Le Moyne win or tie.
