WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley men's soccer team ran its winning streak to four on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 match. Sophomore Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) set up both goals, and sophomore Nicolas Ucros (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Jules Verne) scored the winner in the 80^th minute.

In a rematch of last year's Northeast-10 quarterfinal match played between the two sides on the same field that Franklin Pierce won, Bentley got a measure of revenge with the 2-1 victory to continue its ascent up the Northeast-10 table. After starting the year 0-2 in NE-10, the Falcons now stand at 4-2. The Ravens drop to 2-2 in NE-10 play.

With the match tied 1-1 in the later stages, Ucros was on target from 10 yards away in the center of the penalty area. Ryan helped make the goal happen, dribbling into the area and spotting the unmarked Ucros, who beat Ravens keeper Sam Meza with a low shot to the left corner of the net.

Ryan also assisted on sophomore Scott Levy's (Canton, Mass./Canton) goal in the 21^st minute that gave Bentley a 1-0 lead. He has now assisted on Bentley's last four goals, a streak that started in the team's 2-0 win over Le Moyne last Saturday.

Before Levy opened the scoring, it was Franklin Pierce that created the better chances in the match's early stages. In the 7^th minute a shot by freshman Justin Corday hit the post and just stayed out of the net. In the 9^th minute a header by freshman Casey Schehl in the area was headed for goal, but the Bentley defense cleared it off the line before it crossed.

Bentley took advantage of those missed opportunities, and went up 1-0 on Levy's fifth of the year in the 21^st minute. After Ryan made a run with the ball down the right wing he played off a pass to Levy, who was making the run right next to him. Levy then fired from the right corner of the penalty area, beating Meza for a 1-0 lead.

That was the third straight time the two combined for a goal, after Levy had both goals against Le Moyne.

But the lead was short-lived as Franklin Pierce equalized in the 33^rd minute on a goal by freshman Dallas Donovan. Grad student Chris Stoker played him a through ball in midfield that got in between the Bentley defense, allowing Donovan an open shot from 15 yards out for the goal.

That broke a string of almost 214 scoreless minutes for Bentley keeper Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas), who nonetheless got the win to improve his record to 4-1 on the season.

Bentley will look to make it five straight wins when they visit Assumption on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
