Merrimack Edges Bentley 2-1 on Late Goal

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – A 79th minute goal by Merrimack junior Henrique Etges lifted the host Warriors to a 2-1 victory over the Bentley men's soccer team Wednesday night in a Northeast-10 match.

Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the road on the back of senior co-captain Jordan Bridge's (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) goal in the 20th minute. The goal was assisted by sophomore Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin Regional).

But Merrimack tied things up in the 33rd minute with sophomore Augusto Silva getting the goal, his first of the season and assisted by sophomore Douglas Searl.

The score stayed that way until well into the second half, when Etges fired in his winner from a free kick, his first goal of the season.

Bentley had five shots on goal and had four stopped by Merrimack goalie Jose Silva. Sophomore Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) made his first start for Bentley and had five saves.

The Falcons stay on the road for their next match, when they head to Albany for a match against Saint Rose on Saturday.
