GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Bentley gave No. 6 ranked Adelphi all they could handle, but the Panthers scored the tying goal late in regulation and the winner in overtime to sneak past the Falcons 10-9 on Tuesday night.

Bentley went to-to-toe with the Panthers, with a 5-3 lead at halftime and a 9-8 lead late in the fourth quarter, but Adelphi scored the final two goals to win it. It's the second straight season Adelphi has needed OT to beat Bentley.

With Bentley leading 5-3 at halftime, Adelphi came out and scored four straight goals in the third quarter over a span of about 11 minutes. Four different players scored, and the final goal of the run came from Michael Osmundsen at the 3:57 mark for a 7-5 lead.

But after that goal, it was Bentley's turn to go on a run. Sophomore Matt Brooks (Brunswick, Maine/Philips Exeter) and junior Sam Hurley (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) combined two straight goals, the first at 2:04 of the third quarter and the second at 12:56 of the fourth quarter to tie the score 7-7.

After a tripping penalty on the Panthers just 27 seconds after the tying goal, Hurley notched his third straight assist when he set up Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) for a man-up goal at 11:54 to give Bentley an 8-7 lead.

Osmundsen netted his third goal of the night at 9:58 to tie the score again, but about four minutes later Sanford put Bentley back in front with a goal, which was assisted by Joe DiRaimo (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn).

Following Sanford's goal, Adelphi put the pressure on over the next several minutes, but Falcons goalie Michael Haggan (Braintree, Mass./BC High) came up with three saves. However after the third straight save, a failed clear attempt led to the tying goal by Adelphi's James Hall with 37 seconds remaining, which sent the game to OT tied 9-9.

Bentley had the first possession in overtime following a face-off win by Nick Irby (Groton, Mass./Groton) and got off three shots, the last of which by Hurley was saved by Brendan McDougal. Adelphi then got the ball back, and on its fifth shot of the possession, John Arcidiacono scored the winner with 24 seconds left in the first OT period.
