Big 2nd Half for Bentley as Falcons Defeat Franklin Pierce 13-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley men's lacrosse team outscored Franklin Pierce 9-4 in the second half as they defeated Northeast-10 rival Franklin Pierce 13-10 on Saturday afternoon. Sam Hurley (Medfield, Mass./Medfield), Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and Kris Campbell (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) all had hat tricks.

Bentley trailed 6-4 at halftime, but quickly erased the deficit in the third quarter. Hurley, Matt Brooks (Brunswick, Maine/Philips Exeter) and Campbell all scored in under six minutes as Bentley jumped ahead 7-6.

About four minutes after Campbell's first goal of the quarter gave Bentley a 7-6 lead, he scored again off a feed from Astarita put them in front 8-6 at the 5:02 mark. Astarita's third goal of the afternoon at 1:37 put Bentley in front 9-6.

Just 44 seconds later, Campbell scored for the third time of the quarter after he scooped up a ground ball in front of the net after a shot by Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) had been saved.

Franklin Pierce scored with 35 seconds left in the quarter to break Bentley's 6-0 run, but they still led 10-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Bentley tacked on two more goals in the first 1:38 of the fourth quarter from Mark Galione (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Hurley to build a comfortable five goal lead at 12-7. After a Franklin Pierce goal from Jake Castorf at 12:28, Hurley struck his third goal of the afternoon at 10:39 as Bentley led by five goals again at 13-8.

Sophomore Michael Haggan (Braintree, Mass./B.C. High) made 11 saves to earn the win for the Falcons in goal.

Bentley picked up its first NE10 win of the season and are now 1-3 in conference games. They will look to keep the momentum going when they visit Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday night.
