Bentley Puts Away Roberts Wesleyan in 4th Quarter for 12-8 Road Win

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Bentley outscored Roberts Wesleyan 4-1 in the fourth quarter in a 12-8 road win on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse.

Junior Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and sophomore Matt Brooks (Brunswick, Maine/Philips Exeter) each had a hat trick to pace the Bentley offense, while senior goalie Robert Hamerman (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) made 11 saves. The Falcons improved to 1-1 on the season with the victory.

It was an 8-7 lead for Bentley after three quarters, but they put the Redhawks away with four goals in the final quarter.

Sophomore Mark Galione (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Brooks had goals in the opening 5:54 of the fourth quarter for a 10-7 lead. After about five minutes of scoreless play, Astarita netted his third goal of the day to put Bentley up by four goals. Brooks completed his hat trick when he scored with 36 seconds remaining for the team's 12th goal.

Astarita helped Bentley get off to a fast start with two goals in the first quarter as they led 3-1 after the first 15 minutes. Astarita scored unassisted goals at the 10:40 and 57 second marks, while junior midfielder Sam Hurley (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) also found the back of the net.

Senior Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) scored 1:05 into the 2nd quarter to give Bentley a 4-1 lead. After a goal by the Redhawks and a stretch of about five minutes without a goal, Bentley scored two goals in a row in a span of 2:25 to take a 6-1 lead. Freshman Kris Campbell (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Brooks had the goals. Roberts Wesleyan though answered back with two goals in just eight seconds, starting at the 2:25 mark, to cut Bentley's lead to 6-4 at halftime.

Roberts Wesleyan opened the third quarter with a 3-0 run that spanned the first seven-plus minutes of the quarter. But its lead was short-lived as Bentley netted two goals in a row from freshman Matt Dold (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and Sanford to take an 8-7 lead with 5:29 left in the quarter.

After the Redhawks scored to take the 7-6 lead with 8:17 left in the third, Bentley shut them out until the inside the final two minutes of the fourth quarter as they scored five goals in a row in that span.

After completing its non-conference schedule with a 1-1 record, Bentley will play its first NE10 game of the season next Saturday at home against Le Moyne.
