WALTHAM, Mass. – In a game with big Northeast-10 playoff implications for both teams, 17^th ranked Saint Anselm outlasted 20^th ranked Bentley in double overtime 14-13 on Saturday afternoon. Senior James Olsen had the winning goal for the Hawks 1:07 into the second OT.

Bentley trailed 12-8 early in the fourth quarter after the Hawks' Mark Vitello scored his third straight goal just 34 seconds into the quarter.

But after a three minute lull with no goals, the Falcons exploded with a 3-0 run that took just 22 seconds to cut the deficit to 12-11. Senior David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) had the first goal, followed by sophomore Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) scoring just seven seconds later at 11:16. Following another face-off win by senior Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon), and the groundball pickup by senior Eli Morrissey (Rowley, Mass./Governor's Academy), junior Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) scored off a feed from Morrissey at 11:01 to cut the deficit to just 12-11.

Just under two minutes elapsed before Astarita tied the game back up with an unassisted goal at 9:02 to knot the game 12-12 and erase the four goal deficit.

However, Saint Anselm's Teo Olsen won the ensuing face-off and scored on a fast break just 14 seconds later to put the Hawks back in front at 13-12.

The score stayed that into the final minutes, but Bentley finally got the tying goal from John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) with just 30 seconds remaining left in regulation. Bentley had a number of shots on goal and was able to maintain possession, until Wheeler fired one in to tie the game 13-13.

Both teams turned the ball over once to start the first overtime. Bentley's only shot on goal from Astarita was saved by Saint Anselm goalie Lucas DeAngelo, and the Hawks' only shot from Xavier Quinn went wide.

Saint Anselm won the face-off to start the second overtime, and saw a shot by Anthony Busconi hit the post. Bentley then couldn't convert its clearing attempt, and that led to a shot by Olsen getting saved by Bentley goalie Robert Hamerman (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset). Olsen though got the ground ball on the rebound, and scored on his second attempt to give the Hawks the victory.

Wheeler led the Bentley attack with five goals, while Hamerman made 14 saves.

The Falcons, now 4-5 in the NE10, play their final home game of the season on Tuesday against Saint Michael's.
