Boston Globe North: Q&A with Matt Dente

Sunday's Boston Globe North featured a Q&A with Bentley lacrosse player Matt Dente, recently named to Capital One Academic All-District team. This appeared online at www.bostonglobe.com.

Campus Angle: Matt Dente, Reading High/Bentley University lacrosse

The 5-foot-7, 145-pound senior attack capped off his collegiate career with a nice honor when he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 1 At Large team for Division II at the conclusion of Bentley's season. He graduated with a degree in corporate financing and accounting. Dente, 22, had a breakout final season and scored more goals as a senior than he scored in his first three years combined. At Reading High School, Dente was a captain as a senior and helped the Rockets reach the playoffs each of his three seasons on the varsity.

Q. You had 14 career goals coming into this season and scored 21 as a senior. What happened?

A. I'd just say I finally had the confidence in myself to not be afraid to make a mistake and go all out at it. It's really about that confidence to play full speed and want the ball in my hands during critical moments in the game. I came in as a freshman and played a role. I think it took me a few years to transition into a role to be one of the leaders of the offense.

Q. What do you like most about playing attack?

A. I actually switched to it sophomore year and found it suited me very well. I'm able to use both hands. That's something I've always practiced ever since I picked up a stick.
