No. 5 Adelphi Pulls Away from Bentley in 4th Quarter

WALTHAM, Mass. – A 4-0 run helped No. 5 Adelphi pull away from Bentley late in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers a 15-9 win over the Falcons in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse on Saturday.

Bentley hung very tough with Adelphi throughout, and trailed just 11-9 after senior Bobby Hinds (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) scored his third goal of the game at the 9:40 mark of the fourth quarter.

But Adelphi's Nick Susko's sixth goal of the afternoon just 17 seconds later started a 4-0 run that eventually saw them pull out the victory.

Adelphi led 3-2 after the first quarter, with senior Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading) and freshman Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) scoring for Bentley.

Midfielder Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) opened the scoring 1:02 in the second quarter to tie the game 3-3. Adelphi scored the next three goals, two from Susko, before Bentley closed the half with a goal from senior Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) with just eight seconds left to get the Falcons to within 6-4 at halftime.

Bentley scored the first two goals of the third quarter from Hinds, man-up, and Dimond, to tie the game at six at the 13:16 mark. Adelphi though scored four straight the rest of the quarter to take a 10-6 lead into the fourth.

The Falcons though started the final quarter strong, scoring three of the first four goals. A goal by Hinds at the 13:25 mark was followed by Susko's fifth for Adelphi, making the score 11-7. Bentley responded though with consecutive goals from Dente and Hinds to chop the deficit to 11-9 with 9:40 to play.

Falcons goalie Daniel Shaughnessy (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) made 15 saves.

Bentley drops to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the NE-10, while Adelphi improves to 7-1 and 5-1. Bentley is back on the field on Wednesday night when they visit Assumption.
