Dimond, Phelps Each Score Twice as Bentley Downs Saint Anselm, 9-6

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior attack Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) and freshman David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) each scored two goals as the Bentley men's lacrosse team defeated Northeast-10 rival Saint Anselm 9-6 Tuesday night in Manchester.

Phelps and Dimond, whose goal was in a man-up situation, each had a goal in the first quarter to help the Falcons jump out to a 2-0 lead.

Bentley took a 3-2 lead into halftime on the strength of a man-up goal by sophomore Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) in the second quarter.

The third period saw seven combined goals, with Bentley scoring four of them. Sophomore Jon Blaisdell (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) connected on a man-up goal to open the third quarter scoring just 22 seconds in. Freshman John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and senior Nick Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) also found the back of the net during a 3-0 Bentley run to open up a 6-3 lead after less than four minutes.

Saint Anselm crept closer with three of the third quarter's final four goals, cutting Bentley's lead to 7-5 going into the final 15 minutes. But senior Mike Carter (Walpole, Mass./Thayer Academy) scored just 1:23 in to make it 8-5, and senior goalie Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made four fourth quarter saves.

Baker made 15 saves on the night as Bentley improves to 2-1 in NE-10 play and 2-3 overall. The Hawks fall to 1-2 in the NE-10 and 2-4 overall. Bentley is back in action Saturday when they host Pace for a 3:00 pm start.
