Bentley Visits Northeastern for Monday Night Tilt on NESN

Game Notes

The Matchup: Bentley will play its first game of 2020 on Monday night when they visit the No. 12 ranked Northeastern Huskies at Matthews Arena. The game will be broadcast live on NESN at 7:00 pm.

The Falcons were last in action on Dec. 28-29 at Sacred Heart for two Atlantic Hockey games, and came away with a split against the league's first place team. Bentley is 8-10-1 overall and is 5-2-1 in its last eight games, a stretch that began with a 1-0 win over Brown on Nov. 26.

Northeastern is ranked 12th nationally, and will go into Monday's game with a 12-5-2 overall record. They are 7-4-1 in Hockey East and tied for 1st place after a 5-2 win at UConn on Friday night in their most recent game.

Last Time Out: Bentley battled to a series split at Sacred Heart the last time they were in action on Dec. 28-29. The Pioneers won the first game 4-0, but the Falcons earned a 3-2 win the next night. Sophomore Jakov Novak scored in the first and second periods as they led 2-1 after two periods. Senior Matt Riggleman then gave Bentley a 3-1 lead 5:28 into the 3rd period.

Sacred Heart cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal at the 8:59 mark, and Bentley killed off three SHU power plays over the final 11 minutes but they secured the victory.

Sophomore goalie Fraser Kirk made 26 saves to improve his record to 5-2 on the season.

Non-Conference This Season: Bentley has played well in non-conference games this season with a 2-1-1 record. They defeated New Hampshire of Hockey East, 3-2 at home on Oct. 18, and also defeated the ECAC's Brown University 1-0 on Nov. 26. There was also a 2-2 tie at Dartmouth on Dec. 12, and a 3-0 defeat to St. Lawrence on Oct. 26.

After Monday's game the Falcons will play one more non-conference game this season, which will be at home against Arizona State on Feb. 8

Things to Know: Monday's game will be the 11th all-time between Bentley and Northeastern, and the series is tied 4-4-2. Seven of the prior meetings have been at Matthews Arena and Bentley has won three of them, in 2010-11 (2-1), 2012-13 (6-3) and 2015-16 (3-2).

The teams last met in 2017-18 in a home and home series. The first game in Watertown ended in a 3-3 tie, and Northeastern won the second game at home 6-1.

Bentley swept a home and home series from the Huskies in the 2015-16 season, with a 3-2 away win and a 4-1 home win.

Among current players that have faced the Huskies, Luke Santerno and Brett Orr each have two assists and seniors Jonathan Desbiens and Jake Kauppila each have one goal. Senior Aidan Pelino has started two games in goal.

Bentley vs. Hockey East: Bentley's 3-2 win over UNH earlier this season was the program's 11th win over vs. Hockey East teams all-time, all since the 2008-09 season. The wins have come against seven different schools; Northeastern (4), UNH (2), Boston College, UMass-Lowell, Boston University, UMass and Maine.

Up Next: Bentley is in action this weekend and back to Atlantic Hockey play when they host Canisius, which will be the first of two straight home weekends. Both games this weekend on Friday and Saturday are 7:05 pm starts.
