Bentley’s Comeback Falls Short in 6-4 Defeat to Robert Morris

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley nearly came all the way back from a 5-1 deficit in the 3rd period to Robert Morris, but despite three unanswered goals the Colonials hung on for a 6-4 victory on Friday night at Bentley Arena.

Bentley trailed 5-1 after an RMU goal at the 7:04 mark of the 3rd period. But the Falcons did not go quietly, and just nine seconds after RMU scored, junior Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) netted a shorthanded goal off a face-off win in the offensive zone to make it 5-2.

Nine minutes elapsed with the score still 5-2, but Hamblet scored an even-strength goal that was awarded after a review at 16:44 to make it 5-3. RMU was called for penalty as well as Hamblet was hauled down on the goal to set up a power play opportunity.

That 5-on-4 became a two-man advantage just 20 seconds later after RMU was called for cross-checking, to give Bentley a chance to further cut into the deficit.

They did just that as Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) scored with one of the power plays still going and Bentley's net empty to make it a 5-4 game with 1:35 left in the contest. The goal was Novak's 7th of the year.

The goalie was pulled again as Bentley pressed for the tying goal, but RMU was able to score an empty netter with 14 seconds as Justin Addamo flipped a shot from the neutral zone towards the goal that bounced in to make it 6-4.

Earlier in the game, senior Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba) put Bentley ahead 1-0 at 4:49 of the 1st period with a shot from the point, that was assisted by Hamblet and Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.).

RMU tied the game at 13:39 of the 1st when right wing Jacob Coleman tipped in a shot in front of the net.

The Colonials then scored twice in the 2nd period, and a power play goal by Nick Prkusic at 5:23 of the 3rd period gave them the 5-1 lead.

The four goals scored against RMU goalie Justin Kapelmaster is a season high, as Kapelmaster came into the game with the nation's 2nd best save percentage.

Bentley will look to gain a split of the series with tomorrow's game, which begins at 5:05.
