Bentley Falls at Air Force 3-2 in Series Finale

USAFA, Colo. – A third period power play goal by Air Force's Kieran Durgan was the difference in a 3-2 win over Bentley on Saturday night in the second game of a weekend series between the two teams.

Bentley out shot Air Force 35-25 on the night and erased a 2-0 deficit with two goals in the 2nd period, but Durgan's power play goal 2:36 into the 3rd period ended up being all that separated the teams.

Freshman Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) got Bentley to within 2-1 with his 2nd goal of the year at 10:34 of the 2nd period. Gosiewski initially won a battle for the puck in the corner to recycle it out to the blue line. A shot by defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) from the right and a tip in front by Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) in front created a rebound that Gosiewski put past Air Force goalie Alex Schilling.

Just over five minutes later Air Force was on the power play, but it was a shorthanded goal by Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) that tied the score at two. With Air Force in possession in its offensive zone Novak was hovering near the Air Force blue line and intercepted a pass for a clear breakaway on goal, where he then deked around Schilling to light the lamp. The goal was his 6th of the season and 2nd shorthanded.

The score stayed tied 2-2 until early in the 3rd period when Durgan, who also scored in the 2nd period, scored with Air Force on the power play at 2:36 to give them a 3-2 lead.

Though Bentley created some good scoring chances the rest of the way and out shot Air Force 14-9 in the 3rd, they could not find the tying goal.

Bentley freshman Jason Grande (West Chester, Pa.) made his first career start and made 22 saves.

Bentley returns home next weekend for a series against Robert Morris on Friday at 7:05 and Saturday at 5:05.
