Novak Scores in OT to give Bentley 3-2 Victory over UNH

Waltham, Mass. - Sophomore Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) scored a power play goal 1:22 into overtime to give the Bentley hockey team a 3-2 overtime win over UNH in the team's home opener at Bentley Arena in front of a big crowd of over 1,800 on Friday night.

Novak scored on a drive to the net down the left hand side, going past two UNH defenders and beating another to the front of the net, where he then beat UNH goalie Mike Robinson with a backhander to give Bentley the win.

The goal was Novak's 2nd of the season.

The win is the 10th time in the last 12 seasons Bentley has beaten a team from Hockey East.

After a scoreless first period where shots on goal were at a premium, Bentley scored the game's first goal 12:05 into the 2nd period off the stick of sophomore defenseman Ethan Roswell (Paradise Valley, Ariz.). Roswell ripped in a slap shot from above the right face-off dot after he took a cross-ice pass from defenseman Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba).

UNH would tie the score later in the 2nd period on a power play goal by defenseman Max Gildon, and took a 2-1 lead when Charlie Kelleher scored 39 seconds into the 3rd period.

Bentley though got the tying goal from freshman Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) at 8:46 of the 3rd period. Sophomore Dylan Pitera (Culver, Ind.) helped set the goal up with a drop pass to Gosiewski in the left face-off circle, who then snapped off a wrist shot to beat Robinson to the glove side.

Neither team scored the remainder of regulation, but a UNH penalty for a delay of game with 14 seconds remaining set up Bentley's power play chance in overtime.

Bentley improved to 1-2-0 on the season with the win, while the Wildcats dropped to 1-1-1.

The Falcons will be back at home for two games next weekend, when they host Army West Point on Friday night and St. Lawrence on Saturday night.
