Spellacy, Kapelmaster Lead Robert Morris Past Bentley 4-1

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Sophomore Aidan Spellacy scored twice and goalie Justin Kapelmaster made 45 saves to lead Robert Morris to a 4-1 victory over Bentley University and to the series win on Saturday night.

Spellacy scored in the first and second periods, and also had an assist in the first period for the Colonials. Bentley's Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) scored in the first period, with Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) on the assist.

As in the first game, Bentley again finished the night with the advantage in shots on goal but ran into another big night by Kapelmaster. Bentley put 46 shots on net, but Kapelmaster turned away all but one of them.

RMU jumped out to an early lead as Spellacy set up a goal for defenseman Nick Jenny 2:13 into the game.

The score stayed that way until the later stages of the first period until Robert Morris scored twice in a 25 second span. Spellacy scored on the power play at 15:09, followed by freshman forward Santeri Hartikainen scoring 25 seconds later at 15:34.

Novak pulled one back for Bentley just over a minute later. The Ottawa Senators draft pick lit the lamp at 16:59, with Desbiens notching the assist, to cut the deficit to 3-1.

In the second period, Spellacy netted his second of the night, on the power play at 2:31 to put RMU up 4-1.

A big 13-3 advantage in shots for Bentley in the third period still saw them stonewalled by Kapelmaster as RMU closed out the game.

With the season opening series now in the books, Bentley will next face the University of New Hampshire next Friday night at 7:05 at Bentley Arena.
