Waltham, Mass. – Mercyhurst senior center Derek Barach scored a hat trick to lead Mercyhurst to a come from behind 5-3 win over Bentley on Friday night at Bentley Arena to snap the Falcons' three game winning streak.

The Falcons led 3-1 after first period goals from Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.), Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc.) and defenseman Matt Lombardozzi (Leominster, Mass.). But Mercyhurst rallied with two power play goals in the 2^nd period, and Barach scored twice in the 3^rd period to push them ahead.

Hamblet was involved in all three of Bentley's 1^st period goals, and they got off to a blistering start with two goals in the first 4:49. Hamblet scored just 1:54 into the game after he jammed in a loose puck in front of the net.

Callin then notched his 6^th goal of the season at the 4:49 mark to put Bentley quickly ahead 2-0. Left wing Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) first had a shot on net from the right saved by goalie Garrett Metcalf, and Callin potted home the rebound.

Mercyhurst cut the lead in half with a goal by center Josh Lammon a little less than four minutes later with a backhander near the goal from a tough angle. But Bentley soon led again by two goals when Lombardozzi scored for the 2^nd time in three games with a rocket of a slap shot from the left point that beat Metcalf to the glove side at 15:50.

Bentley ran into penalty trouble in the 2^nd period with three penalties in a span of just over two minutes, starting at the 8:34 mark. Mercyhurst took advantage with two, 5-on-3 goals to knot the game up at three. Bentley nearly killed off the first 5-on-3, but Lakers center Steven Ipri struck at the tail end of it with a slap shot from the right face-off circle that got through traffic to make it a 3-2 game.

Barach then scored his first of the night 28 seconds into the second 5-on-3, and all of the sudden the game was tied 3-3, which is how it went into the 3^rd period.

Bentley went on the power play 2:38 into the 3^rd period and peppered Metcalf with six shots on goal, but they could not find a way through.

The Lakers then went ahead on Barach's 2^nd goal of the night at the 8:47 mark when he finished off a one-timer after a pass from the other end of the ice from James Anderson.

Bentley pulled goaltender Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) for the extra-attacker for the final 1:20 and had the puck in the offensive zone for most of that time. They got off six shots, with two blocked and one saved by Metcalf. Barach though was able to finish off the hat trick after he chased down a rolling puck down the other end of the ice and scored with 0.9 left on the clock.

The Falcons will look to bounce back tomorrow night in the second game of the series, which gets underway at 7:05 at the Arena.
