Army Scores Twice in 3rd Period to Clip Bentley 3-2

Waltham, Mass. – Army West Point scored twice in the 3rd period to overcome a one goal deficit in a 3-2 victory over Bentley University on Friday night at Bentley Arena.

Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:46 into the game on sophomore Michael Zuffante's (Bloomingdale, Ill.) second goal of the season. Freshman Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) got the play started with a hit and steal along the boards up near the blue line. He then skated in and fed Zuffante a pass as he entered the offensive zone. Zuffante did the rest and beat Army goalie Jared Dempsey to give Bentley the early lead.

Army though responded with a power play goal about four minutes later with a power play goal from junior forward Brendan Soucie. His 4th goal of the season came on a shot from the left point.

The second period was scoreless, but saw Bentley own a 13-9 edge in shots.

Into the 3rd period, Bentley broke the 1-1 deadlock as senior Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc.) scored his 5th goal of the year with a diving backhander across the crease. Dempsey first stopped shots from Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) from the point and Ryner Gorowsky (Link Lakes, Minn.) on the rebound attempt, but Callin then lunged across the crease and backhanded the puck past Dempsey to the far post to give Bentley a 2-1 lead 6:41 into the period.

The Black Knights though tied it again on a power play goal by Zach Evancho at the 9:16 mark, and a little over three minutes later, Soucie scored what was the eventual game-winner shorthanded to put his team ahead 3-2.

Bentley sent the extra-attacker on for the final 1:33, but they could not find the tying goal.

The Falcons will look to bounce back and gain a split of this series tomorrow at Bentley Arena. Face-off is set for 5:05 pm.
