Callin’s OT Goal Gives Bentley 3-2 Win over Sacred Heart

Waltham, Mass. – Senior Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc.) scored 3:06 into overtime to give the Bentley hockey team a 3-2, come from behind victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday night at Bentley Arena.

With Bentley on the power play, they won the puck along the wall and the puck found its way out to defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba) on the blue line. Jago then fed Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) to his right. Santerno skated in a bit, and fed a sharp diagonal pass to Callin in the left corner. From a tough angle, he quickly fired on the open net for the winning goal to the Falcons a 3-2 victory.

Senior goalie Jake Bryniarski (Rochester, N.Y.) made 19 big saves after coming on at the start of the 2nd period to earn the win. He was pressed into action almost immediately and made several big stops in the early minutes of the 2nd period to keep it a two goal deficit.

Bentley overcame a 2-0 first period deficit, with goals from freshman Dylan Pitera (Culver, Ind.) in the 2nd period, and junior Jake Kauppila (Gurnee, Ill.) in the 3rd period.

Pitera's goal came at 2:35 of the 2nd period after Santerno won the puck in the corner, and line mate Will Garin (Mound, Minn.) fed him a drop pass for a quick shot on goal.

Kauppila's tying goal came just past the halfway point of the 3rd period. Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) retrieved the puck after a block and hit an open Kauppila in the slot for a one-timer.

With the win, Bentley split the series and improved its Atlantic Hockey record to 2-2-1. They now head out to Colorado to face Air Force for a series beginning next Friday night at 9:05 eastern.
