Bentley Drops 4-2 Decision to UMass Lowell

Waltham, Mass. – Senior Nick Master scored two goals to help visiting UMass Lowell from Hockey East to a 4-2 victory over the Bentley hockey team at Bentley Arena on Saturday night.

Falcons goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) played a strong game with several point-blank saves, and made 27 stops on the night, including on a penalty shot in the 2nd period.

The Bentley goals came from defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba) in the first period, and defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) in the 3rd period on the power play.

After UML jumped out to a 1-0 lead on goal by senior Ryan Dwomski at 5:56 of the 1st period, Jago tied the score for Bentley with his first goal of the season at the 14:19 mark. A shot from the left wing got through traffic in front of the net and past River Hawks goalie Chris Hernberg.

Pelino saved a penalty shot from Lowell's Connor Sodergren with 10:40 of the 2nd period to keep the score tied 1-1. Sodergren went to his right, but Pelino came up with the pad save.

However just over a minute later, Master scored his first of the period in a 4-on-4 situation to put UML up 2-1. He scored again, this time on the power play, at 14:50, to give the River Hawks a 3-1 edge.

UML took that 3-1 lead into the final period, but Brassard brought Bentley to within one goal with a power play strike 6:07 into the period. After taking a pass from Jago on the point, he ripped a shot from the right that beat Hernberg up top for the goal.

Bentley though couldn't get any closer, and UML made it a 4-2 game with a power play goal from Lucas Condotta with 2:09 remaining.

UMass Lowell improved to 3-3 on the season with the win, while the Falcons dropped to 1-3-1. Bentley will be back at home next weekend at Bentley Arena for a two game series against Sacred. Heart.
