WATERTOWN, Mass. – Seniors Matt Sieckhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) and Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) and freshman Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) each had goals as the Bentley hockey team defeated Canisius 3-2 on Saturday night at the JAR to gain a series split.

Schmidt's goal, at 4:26 of the second period, was his 50^th career goal. While Sieckhaus and Santerno each scored their second goals of the weekend after they both scored on Friday night.

Sophomore goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) made 30 saves to earn the win.

Bentley jumped out to an early lead in the first period as Sieckhaus blasted in his second goal of the weekend 7:11 into the game. Bentley entered the offensive zone and defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba) dropped a pass off to Sieckhaus. Just inside the blue line, Sieckhaus blasted a slap shot over Griffs goalie Daniel Urbani's glove for the goal.

Bentley mostly controlled the first period, as they had the first seven shots of the period, and ended the frame with a 13-8 edge.

The Falcons came out of intermission strong and netted a goal just 28 seconds into the second off the stick of Santerno, which came only four seconds after a penalty to Canisius' Matt Hoover expired, but had yet to rejoin the play.

Schmidt then made it 3-0 for the Falcons with his 50^th career goal, which came on the power play at the 4:26 mark. Jago fed him a short pass in the slot, which Schmidt then snapped a shot low past Urbani to light the lamp. Center Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc.) had an assist on both second period goals.

Shortly after Schmidt's goal, Bentley's penalty kill was then pressed into action, and came up with a pair of big kills. Included in that was seeing off a 5-on-3 advantage for the Griffs which lasted for 33 seconds and began with 7:21 left in the period.

In the third period, a power play goal by Canisius' Ryan Schmelzer cut into Bentley's lead at 3-1 with 9:55 remaining. Late in the game, the Griffs made it interesting as Urbani was first pulled for an extra-attacker with 3:33 remaining. The move paved off, as Schmelzer scored again with 1:07 left to make it a 3-2 game.

However, Bentley was able to see out the remaining time to secure the victory.

With the win in the books, the Falcons head out on the road next weekend to face RIT next Friday and Saturday, before closing down the JAR the weekend of Feb. 9-10 vs. Air Force.
