Schmidt on Fan Ballot for Hobey Baker Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) is on the fan ballot for the 2018 Hobey Baker Award, given to the most outstanding player in Division I men's hockey.

The first phase of fan voting for the Hobey has begun, and will continue through March 5. Fans can vote once every 24 hours at the following link: Hobey Baker fan vote

Schmidt, Bentley's team captain as a senior, is currently second on the Falcons in points with 16. He leads the squad in goals with 7 and is third in assists with 9. Schmidt's 11 power play points on the season are tied for the most in Atlantic Hockey.

Earlier this season, the Wisconsin native recorded his 100th career point in a win over Robert Morris on Nov. 25. He's one of just 14 active players in Division I to have surpassed the century mark in career points. His 48 career goals are sixth most among active players, and his 17 power play goals are eighth most.

Schmidt has been named a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award the last two seasons, given to the top American-born player in New England.

Over the rest of the season, the top-10 finalists for the Hobey will be announced on March 14. The Hobey Hat Trick of three finalists will be revealed on March 29, and the winner on April 6 during the Frozen Four in Minneapolis.
