No. 9 Northeastern Snaps Bentley’s Unbeaten Streak, 6-1

Boston, Mass. - Bentley University's seven game unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday, as No. 9 ranked Northeastern defeated the Falcons 6-1 at Matthews Arena.

Senior left wing Nolan Stevens and junior right wing Brandon Hawkins each had two goals for the Huskies. Junior center Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc.) scored a power play goal for Bentley in the 2nd period.

Bentley's streak featured six wins in a row from Nov. 24-Dec.9. It was stretched to seven games unbeaten after these two teams played to a 3-3 tie at the JAR last night.

The Falcons went 3-2-1 in the non-conference portion of their schedule.

The first 10 minutes of Saturday's game were scoreless, until the Huskies turned around a Bentley power play into a shorthanded goal. Junior center Adam Gaudette came up with the puck at center ice and streaked in on net on a breakaway. Bentley goalie Aida Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) denied Gaudette's first shot, but Gaudette was able to tap in the rebound for the game's opening goal.

About four minutes later, Stevens scored his first goal of the night, on the power play, as Northeastern took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Stevens scored another power play goal for the Huskies 7:04 into the second period for a 3-0 lead. But following that goal, Bentley struck on the power play to cut into the deficit. Callin fired in a one-timer off a feed from freshman Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) to make it a 3-1 game at the 13:53 mark. Defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba) also had an assist.

That was Bentley's fifth straight game with a power play goal.

However it was the Falcons' final goal of the night. Hawkins scored twice in the first 5:06 of the 3rd period to extend the Huskies' lead to 5-1.

Bentley's record fell to 7-8-4 on the season, while the Huskies improved to 12-5-3.

The Falcons return to Atlantic Hockey action on Tuesday night when they host Sacred Heart.
