Niagara Clips Bentley 4-3 in Back and Forth Game

NIAGARA FALLS. N.Y. – In a game that featured four lead changes, Niagara gained the final one as they defeated Bentley 4-3 in the final game of the teams' Atlantic Hockey series at Dwyer Arena on Saturday night.

An early third period goal by Bentley's captain Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) at 2:35 saw them battle back from a 3-2 deficit to the tie the game up at three, which was the third tie of the night.

However, Niagara's Derian Plouffe scored just 1:11 later for the hosts to take the lead back, which they hung on to for the rest of the period.

Earlier in the game, Bentley came back from an early Niagara goal in the first period with a goal by sophomore Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn.) at 6:16 of the first period. Matt Riggleman (Milford, Mich.) and defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba) had the assists.

After the first period ended 1-1, Bentley jumped in front with another quick goal in the 2nd period, this one coming from Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec). That was his fourth goal of the weekend after Friday's hat trick and fifth of the season so far.

Niagara though got the tying goal from Tanner Lomsnes at 9:32, then with just 35 seconds left in the period from Sean King to take a 3-2 lead into the final period.

Schmidt tied it for Bentley at the 2:35 mark of the 3rd before Plouffe struck to give the Purple Eagles the lead for good.

Shots on the night were even at 26 for both teams.

After this series has wrapped up, Bentley will now play its first non-conference game of the season next Friday, when they visit Merrimack.
