WATERTOWN, Mass. – Defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) scored with 6:09 left in the 3^rd period to break a 3-3 tie to give the Bentley hockey team a 4-3 victory over Mercyhurst at the JAR on Friday night.

Brassard's goal capped off a back-and-forth 3^rd period that started out tied 1-1, saw the teams combine for five goals, and ended with the Falcons taking home their first victory of the season.

The goals came in quick bursts in the 3^rd period. With Bentley on a five minute power play that started with nine seconds left in the 2^nd period, and carried over, senior Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) scored 2:14 into the period to get it started.

Another 2:23 of the power play elapsed, but with four seconds left on the man-advantage, freshman Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) netted his first career goal to put the Falcons up 3-1. Schmidt fed a cross-ice pass to Santerno on the far post, and the freshman didn't miss to give Bentley a two goal lead.

Following Santerno's goal however, a number of penalties on both teams led to a power play opportunity for Mercyhurst, which they converted with a goal from right wing Jonathan Charbonneau to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Just 30 seconds later, right wing Kane Elliot scored off a rebound, and all the sudden the game was tied 3-3.

Not to be deterred, Bentley responded just 1:41 later as Brassard fired in a shot from just inside the blue line and through traffic to put the Falcons in front.

The final minutes weren't without drama however. A Bentley penalty with 1:09 left gave the Lakers a power play, and goalie Brandon Wildung was pulled to create a 6-on-4 advantage. Bentley held strong though, and killed off the final 1:09 for the victory.

Bentley's first goal came from freshman defenseman Charlie Marchand (Calgary, Alberta) at 4:29 of the first period for his first career goal. Three of the team's four goals of the night came on the power play.

Senior goaltender Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba) made 34 saves to pick up the win.

Bentley will look to finish the series sweep when these two teams go at it again tomorrow night at the JAR.
