WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University hockey standout Max French (West Kelowna, B.C.) has been named a CoSIDA Academic Third Team All-American for the Division I Men's At-Large team, it was announced Thursday. French becomes the first student-athlete from the Bentley hockey program to earn the distinction.

French had previously been voted to the All-District 1 At-Large team by CoSIDA in early May, which made him eligible for All-American consideration. The men's At-Large teams consist of the sports of hockey, fencing, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

French had a stellar senior season for the Bentley hockey team. He earned a second straight first team All-Atlantic Hockey selection after he finished the season 4th in the conference in points (39), and T-5^th in both goals (17) and assists (22).

In the classroom, he achieved a 3.88 GPA this year while working towards his Master's degree in accountancy, after he finished his bachelor's degree in corporate finance and accounting in just three years. He was chosen as Bentley's team captain for the 2016-17 season, and was also nominated as a finalist for the Senior CLASS award.

"I'm extremely proud of Max being named an Academic All-American," said Bentley head coach Ryan Soderquist. "It's a well-deserved and fitting way to cap off a great career at Bentley." "His hard work and perseverance on and off the ice over four years was second to none," he continued.

French finished his career with 67 goals and 76 assists for 143 points. In Bentley's time as a Division I program, going back to 1999, that ranks him 3^rd in both goals and points, and 5^th in assists. Among all Division I players who competed this season, those numbers rank him 4^th in goals, 5^th in points and T-12^th in assists.
