Bentley Ties Holy Cross 2-2 in Regular Season Finale

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Bentley and Holy Cross battled to a 2-2 tie Saturday night at the JAR in the final game of the regular season on Senior Night. Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) and Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) each had a power play goal, and goaltender Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba/Nanaimo) made 28 saves.

With Bentley trailing 1-0 after a first period goal by Holy Cross' T.J. Moore, French got Bentley even with his 13th goal of the season at the 3:56 mark of the 2nd period. A redirected shot by defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba/Portage) from the right face-off circle found its way to French on the far post. French then snapped off a wrist shot that beat Holy Cross Paul Berrafato to the post for the goal.

About 10 minutes later, Holy Cross went back in front on a goal by right wing Peter Crinella after he jammed in a loose puck in front of the net after Argue had made an initial save.

The Crusaders maintained their lead until Schmidt's 17th goal of the season knotted it 2-2. Berrafato saved a shot on goal by Jago, but couldn't control the rebound, which allowed Schmidt to pounce on it for the goal.

Bentley the came up with a big penalty kill with 4:06 left in regulation that helped see the game into overtime.

In the extra session, Argue came with the save of the game by denying Holy Cross' Scott Pooley on a breakaway, and also denying his rebound attempt.

With the tie, Bentley finished the regular season with a 10-12-6 record in Atlantic Hockey games. They will play Sacred Heart next weekend in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey playoffs.
