Air Force Uses Big 2nd Period to Take Series Opener from Bentley

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Air Force used a four-goal 2nd period on its way to a 6-1 victory over Bentley University in the first game of this weekend's Atlantic Hockey series. Freshman Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn./Fairbanks) had the goal for Bentley.

Bentley got off to a good start, as Gorowsky's short-handed goal at 11:39 of the 1st period gave them a 1-0 lead. Air Force was on the power play, but turned the puck over deep in its defensive zone. Senior Tyler Deresky (Flemington, N.J./Amarillo) dug the puck out from behind the net, and fed a backhand pass to a charging Gorowsky. With plenty of space, Gorowsky teed up his shot, and blasted it past Air Force goalie Shane Starrett for his 4th goal of the season, and Bentley's 8th shorthanded goal of the year.

The lead didn't last long though. With the power play still going, Air Force won the ensuing face-off and brought the puck into the offensive zone. The puck found its way to right wing A.J. Reid, who scored from the right face-off circle to tie the game 1-1 just 13 seconds after Gorowsky's goal for Bentley.

Later in the period, Air Force went in front 2-1 on a goal center Kyle Haak at the 15:15 mark.

Air Force then broke the game open in the 2nd period with four goals. Reid scored his 2nd of the night at the 7:48 mark, followed by a goal from right wing Tyler Rostenkowski just 55 seconds later to take a 4-1 lead. Haak scored his 2nd goal of the evening on the power play 11:08, followed by center Brady Tomlak scoring 57 seconds later to provide the final margin.

Bentley will look to bounce back tomorrow night and gain a series split against Air Force. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 from the JAR.
