Pelino and Two Power Play Goals Lead Bentley Past RIT 3-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc./Janesville) scored a power play goal at 8:41 of the 3rd period to break a 2-2 tie, and freshman goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario/Chilliwack) made 34 saves, as Bentley University scored a 3-2 win over RIT on the road Friday night at the Polisseni Center.

The Falcons struck twice on the power play in the win, the 3rd time in the last six games they've had multiple power play goals. Freshman Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec/West Kelowna) netted the first one at 14:36 of the 1st period, which gave Bentley a 1-0 lead. Pelino, meanwhile, put in his second straight solid start with 34 saves to earn his 2nd straight victory.

Desbiens gave Bentley a 1-0 lead late in the opening period, his 2nd straight game with a goal, with the assists coming from defensemen Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass./Jersey) and Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba/Portage).

Bentley took that 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but RIT started the 2nd period strong with two goals inside the opening 3:27 to take a 2-1 lead. Left wing Caleb Cameron tied it at 1:40, followed by defenseman Darren Brady scoring at 3:27 to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

RIT maintained its lead for most of the 2nd period, until junior Matt Sieckhaus (St. Louis, Mo./Amarillo) got Bentley back level at 2-2, just 2:04 before the end of the period. Senior Tyler Deresky (Flemington, N.J./Amarillo) set the goal up with a drive in on net and shot on goal that was saved by RIT goalie Mike Rotolo, but Sieckhaus lifted the rebound over Rotolo for the goal.

In the 3rd period with Bentley on the power play, Callin tipped in a slap shot from Brassard in front of the net to put the Falcons in front.

Bentley killed off an RIT power play that started at the 13:24 mark, and the final 1:47 when Rotolo was pulled for the extra attacker to secure the victory.

The Falcons improve to 7-8-4 in Atlantic Hockey games with the win. They'll go for the sweep tomorrow night.
