Argue, Berry & Riggleman Help Bentley Top Mercyhurst 2-1

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Goalie Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba/Nanaimo) stopped 33 shots, and the goals came from Mike Berry (Edmonton, Alberta/Sherwood) and Matt Riggleman (Milford, Mich./Sioux Falls), as the Bentley hockey team defeated Mercyhurst 2-1 on Saturday night at the JAR.

After a scoreless first period, Bentley scored twice in a six minute span in the 2nd period. Argue continued his stellar play as he stonewalled the Mercyhurst offense most of the night to earn his 3rd win of the season.

Berry's goal came after he took a pass from freshman Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn./Fairbanks) from the point to the left face-off circle. After faking a shot, he skated in on net and beat Mercyhurst goalie Brandon Wildung to the near post for his 1st goal of the season at the 8:13 mark for a 1-0 Falcons lead.

Bentley' power play then produced the 2nd goal to put them up 2-0. A high-sticking call on the Lakers gave the Falcons the man-advantage at the 12:49 mark, and Riggleman potted his 2nd goal of the series to cash the power play in. The goal was started by a slap shot from the blue line from defenseman Tanner Salsberry (Cypress, Texas/Jersey Hitmen) that Wildung saved. The rebound kicked to Jake Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minn./Wenatchee), who put a shot on net that Riggleman tipped in on the far post.

Mercyhurst would score a power play goal of their own from Kyle Dutra with less than two seconds in the 2nd period, to cut its deficit to 2-1, but that's all Argue allowed all night.

Wildung was pulled with 1:22 remaining in favor of the extra-attacker as the Lakers hunted for the tying goal, but the Falcons held firm and secured the victory.

With the win, Bentley improves to 3-5-3 overall and 2-4-2 in Atlantic Hockey. They'll get back on the ice on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Harvard.
