Bentley Drops Series Finale to Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – Northeastern's Zach Aston-Reese had two goals and two assists to lead the offensive effort in a 7-3 victory over Bentley University at Matthews Arena on Saturday night in the series finale between the two teams after Friday night's 1-1 tie at the JAR.

For Bentley, sophomore defenseman Alexey Solovyev (Moscow, Russia/Lone Star) scored for the 3rd straight game. Freshman Jake Kauppila (Gurnee, Ill./Trail) netted his 1st career goal in the 2nd period, and senior Tyler Deresky (Flemington, N.J./Amarillo) had the team's 3rd goal.

The defeat is Bentley's first in four visits to Matthews Arena. They had won three in a row dating back to the 2010-11 season.

Northeastern jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 12:19 of the 1st period, but Bentley got back in it when Solovyev scored a power play goal at 16:56, with the assists going to defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba/Portage) and Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna).

The Huskies though opened the 2nd period strong with three goals in the first 6:58, before the Falcons started to fight back. Kauppila scored at the 10:03 mark with a shot from the left wing, followed by Deresky scoring a shorthanded goal with under two minutes left in the period to cut the deficit to 6-3. That was Bentley's 2nd shorthanded goal of the series.

Bentley though couldn't climb any closer in the 3rd period, as they dropped their first game of the season after opening with three against Hockey East schools.

Freshman goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario/Chilliwack) came on in the 2nd period to make his Bentley debut, and made 13 saves.

Bentley will now open Atlantic Hockey play when they travel out to Colorado next weekend to take on Air Force for a pair of games.
