WATERTOWN, Mass. – In the home opener for the Bentley University hockey team, the Falcons and Northeastern Huskies battled to a 1-1 tie in front of a large sellout crowd at the JAR on Friday night.

Defense was the hallmark of the game for the Falcons, who withstood 13 Northeastern power play opportunities, while goaltender Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba/Nanaimo) made 34 saves.

Northeastern controlled the first period with a 16-7 edge in shots, and a power play goal from forward Nolan Stevens at 13:56 of the period.

Bentley though turned the tables in the 2^nd period and had a 9-6 advantage in shots. They also found the back of the net as defenseman Alexey Solovyev (Moscow, Russia/Lone Star) scored for the 2^nd straight game. The goal was shorthanded, as it came just seconds after a Northeastern penalty expired, and was assisted by Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) and Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City).

Following Northeastern's first period power play goal, Bentley proceeded to kill off eight straight Huskies' power plays, including one that came 1:39 into overtime.

Argue's counterpart, Northeastern's Ryan Ruck, made 22 saves.

With the tie, Bentley's record goes to 1-0-1 on the season, while the 16th-ranked Huskies go to 0-1-2. The series now shifts to Matthews Arena in Boston for tomorrow night's game, which gets underway at 7:00 pm.
