Bentley Places 20 Student-Athletes on Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team

Bentley University is once again well represented on the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team. The Falcons had 20 student-athletes receive All-Academic recognition, among the highest in the conference, for the 2016-17 season.

Former Bentley University hockey standout Max French (West Kelowna, B.C.) has been named a CoSIDA Academic Third Team All-American for the Division I Men’s At-Large team, it was announced Thursday. French becomes the first student-athlete from the Bentley hockey program to earn the distinction.

Three Bentley University student-athletes have earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 honors in the men’s at-large program, which was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. They are seniors Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon School) of the men’s lacrosse team and Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) of the hockey team, and junior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) of the golf team.

All-America women’s basketball player Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) and football linebacker Bryan Hardy (Barnstable/Barnstable HS), a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America®, have been named the Outstanding Senior Athletes at Bentley University. In addition, hockey standout Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna Warriors) was selected for the Edward J. Powers Scholar Athlete Award as Bentley’s premier senior scholar-athlete.

Air Force got the go-ahead goal 39 seconds into the 3rd period, and hung on the rest of the way for a narrow 2-1 win over Bentley in game two of the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals to eliminate the Falcons in two games.

Coming off a thrilling two games to one series victory over Sacred Heart in the first round, the Bentley hockey team travels out to Colorado this weekend to take on Air Force in a best of three quarterfinals series. Games one and two are Friday and Saturday night, and game three if necessary, is Sunday night. Game times are 9:05 eastern each night.

Senior Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) helped ensure there will be at least one more game this season for Bentley University. His hat trick, with two of the goals in the 3rd period, lifted the Falcons to a 5-2 win over Sacred Heart in game two of the Atlantic Hockey first round Saturday night and to force a decisive game three on Sunday night.

Bentley University winger Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn./Fairbanks) has been voted to the 2017 Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie team. Gorowsky finished the regular season with six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 26 games.

Bentley and Holy Cross battled to a 2-2 tie Saturday night at the JAR in the final game of the regular season on Senior Night. Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) and Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) each had a power play goal, and goaltender Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba/Nanaimo) made 28 saves.

Holy Cross Trips Up Bentley in Overtime, 5-4

Holy Cross defenseman Johnny Coughlin scored with 1:50 left in overtime to give them a 5-4 victory over Bentley in a back and forth Atlantic Hockey game at the JAR on Friday night.
