Robert Morris Forces Game 3 With 4-1 Victory

Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Robert Morris stayed alive with a 4-1 victory over Bentley in game two of the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals Saturday night. Freshman Cody DePourcq (Penticton, B.C./Penticton) had the goal for the Falcons. The deciding game three for a trip to Rochester is Sunday night at 7:05 pm.

RMU got an early goal from center Brady Ferguson just 2:14 into the 1st period. Despite the early goal Bentley kept the Colonials off the scoreboard the rest of the period and trailed just 1-0 at intermission.

Bentley got off to a good start in the 2nd period and required goalie Terry Shafer to make several big saves, including one on a great chance by Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) right in front of the net. Bentley wasn't able to capitalize though, and shortly after RMU went ahead 2-0 on Ferguson's second of the night at the 6:38 mark as he scored shooting almost horizontally from the goal post.

Just over three minutes later RMU took a 3-0 lead on a breakaway goal by right wing Brandon Denham at the 9:56 mark.

Bentley got a goal back at the 15:24 mark as DePourcq tipped in a shot by French in front of the net, after French shot from just inside the blue line.

That cut the Falcons' deficit to 3-1, but just over a minute later RMU went up 4-1 with another breakaway goal, this one from left wing Timmy Moore at the 16:47 mark.

Neither team scored in the third period as RMU hung on to force tomorrow night's deciding game three. Bentley won game three in last week's first round over Sacred Heart at the JAR 4-1. The winner moves on to the semifinals next Friday in Rochester, N.Y.
