Bentley Drops Series Finale to Canisius 6-3

WATERTOWN, Mass. – The Bentley hockey team dropped its series finale to visiting Canisius 6-3 at the JAR on Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey action. Tyler Deresky (Flemington, N.J./Amarillo), Andrew McDonald (New Brighton, Minn./Fargo) and Michael Reardon (Norwood, Mass./South Shore) had the goals for the Falcons.

The Falcons' record drops to 9-12-4 in Atlantic Hockey games, while Canisius improves to 10-9-5 in conference contests.

The Griffs led 2-0 after the first period, helped by freshman Felix Chamberland's second goal of the series at 10:36. The visitors tacked on two more in the 2nd period, including a power play goal by center Ryan Schmelzer at the 9:11 mark. Canisius went up 4-0 on a goal by forward Cameron Heath at the 15:01 mark.

However just 10 seconds after Heath's goal, Deresky got Bentley on the board as he whistled a wrist shot over the glove of goalie Simon Hofley and off the crossbar, to cut the deficit to 4-1.

In the third period though, Canisius received two straight goals from winger Shane Conacher, the second coming at the 8:05 mark. Bentley tried to chip away in the game's later stages as they notched goals from McDonald and Reardon. Reardon's goal came from just inside the blue line and cut the deficit to 6-3 with 3:25 remaining.

Following Reardon's goal, Bentley goalie Gabe Antoni (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield) denied a penalty shot by Canisius' Felix Chamberland with a glove save.

Bentley's Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) notched an assist on McDonald's goal, and he now has at least one point in 10 straight games.

The Falcons are now off next weekend, but will look to bounce back in their next game on Feb. 24 at AIC.
