Bentley Falls at Mercyhurst 5-2 to Snap Streak

ERIE, Pa. – Bentley dropped the final game of its series at Mercyhurst 5-2 Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey action at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The defeat snaps the Falcons' five game unbeaten streak and splits the series. Senior Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo) did score a goal for the 6th straight game.

The Falcons, who had been 3-0-2 in its last five games before tonight, fall to 9-10-4 in Atlantic Hockey games, while Mercyhurst improves to 12-9-1.

Bentley took the lead just 3:26 in as its top line produced another goal, this time junior Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./Wet Kelowna) with his 18th of the season after taking a drop pass from Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) and beating Lakers goalie Brandon Wildung. Gladiuk also had an assist, which extended his points streak to eight games.

After the Lakers tied the score later in the 1st period, they scored twice more in the 2nd. Forward Josh Lammon 19 seconds into the period, and Wes Brown on a power play goal at 10:27 to take a 3-1 lead.

They held that two goal lead until Gladiuk ripped in a power play goal at 13:59 with a blistering wrist shot from the point. That got the Falcons to within 3-2.

Bentley continued to battle for the tying goal, but Mercyhurst took a 4-2 advantage on a power play goal by senior Kyle Cool at 8:19 of the 3rd period. They then sealed the win with an empty net goal by Jack Riley at 18:18.

The Falcons next return home to face Canisius next weekend.
